Are you interested in Permagard Marine for your yacht or boat? We’ve put together some of the most popular questions we get asked about Permagard Marine. Let’s see if the world’s #1 choice for aviation-grade yacht paint protection is right for you.
Can Permagard protect my boat’s finish from saltwater damage?
It can! Permagard fully protects against saltwater and salt-laden air.
Does Permagard reduce the frequency of required boat maintenance?
It does for its paint! Every 11-13 months, the original Permagard coating receives a Service Treatment that deep cleans the coating and fills in any micro-scratches that may have appeared on the treated surfaces. This keeps the Permagard coating performing at its best, while also keeping it in good standing with the Permagard Maintenance Program.
How is Permagard different from marine waxes or sealants?
Unlike traditional waxes or sealants, Permagard was engineered for aerospace environments. These climates face some of harshest environmental conditions in the world. Therefore, Permagard was designed to withstand some of the most harmful environmental hazards for painted surfaces. Permagard will last for a lifetime on a yacht’s painted surfaces or gelcoat surfaces, provided proper maintenance is carried out through the Permagard Maintenance Program.
Is Permagard suitable for fiberglass and gelcoat surfaces?
Absolutely! Permagard provides the same durable protection to gelcoat surfaces as it does for painted surfaces. Permagard is fully compatible with all repainting procedures for both traditional paints and gelcoats and does not require special protocols to be taken when repainting.
Will Permagard protect my yacht from UV-related fading?
100%! One of Permagard’s best protective properties is its strong ability to block out harsh UV rays. Once an asset has been treated with Permagard, paint correction or compounding will no longer be required to remove fading or oxidation due to paint degradation. Permagard fully protects against oxidation and fading for painted surfaces and gelcoat surfaces.
Does Permagard prevent marine staining?
Most definitely! Permagard is highly effective at preventing marine lines and stains from forming on the treated surfaces, due to the slickness created by the Permagard coating.
How often does Permagard need to be reapplied to marine vessels?
The Permagard coating requires only one initial application and one product to maintain it, the Service Treatment. After the initial application of the Permagard coating, customers may enter into a 5-year warranty period through the Permagard Maintenance Program. During this warranty-period, customers will receive Service Treatments at 11-13 month intervals to keep coating performing at maximum efficiency.
Does Permagard have a curing process?
Permagard has a 24-hour curing process. The treated vessel can still be normally used in this period and no strict protocols need to be followed. This displays the durability and versatility of Permagard, compared to our competitors’ products that require strict cure times of up to two weeks before the treated asset can be used again.
Can Permagard prevent oxidation?
Definitely! Permagard has exceptional UV protection qualities that prevent oxidation from setting into the treated surfaces. Permagard doesn’t just prevent oxidation on your gelcoat and painted surfaces too. Our Plastic & Vinyl Protector and Teak Protector are excellent products for keeping your plastic, vinyl, and teak surfaces protected from oxidation and looking their absolute best.
Can Permagard be applied to other surfaces on the topside of my boat?
Yes! Permagard can be applied to any painted, plastic, vinyl, or teak surface on your vessel to ensure full protection from harsh marine environments.
Will Permagard prevent swirl marks?
It will! The Permagard coating will fill in any micro-scratches caused from previous polishers. Permagard’s primary purpose is to durably protect painted and gelcoat surfaces from environmental hazards. Since Permagard acts as a sacrificial layer, it is easy to repair, if needed.
